Shosen Gorge or Shosenkyo in Kofu, Yamanashi

Shosen Gorge or Shosenkyo in Japanese is located just north in the city of Kofu in Yamanashi prefecture, Japan. Shosenkyo is also called Mitake Shosenkyo.  “Mitake” refers to sacred mountains and implies that this area was traditionally used for worship. Shosen Gorge is located within the Chichibu Tama Kai National Park. A ride on the Shosen Gorge gondola will take you to the summit of the mountain where you will find expansive views of the Southern Japanese Alps and Mount Fuji on clear days.

At Panorama-Hill Station of Shosen Gorge Ropeway, there is a fish pond where gold or golden-colored koi (brocaded carp) fish have been raised. The gold koi is one of the nishikigoi (Cyprinus rubrofuscus), the Amur carp, a species of cyprinid fish.
